Yesterday we had a roast dinner - we never have it on a Sunday like most people do, normally too busy to do it on a Sunday so I schedule it in during the week.
I thought hard about what I could do with the leftover chicken and bones. I picked all of the rest of the chicken meat off and used some for a chicken & mayo sandwich for lunch.
Then I used some for a pasta bake for tea. I made white sauce (butter, flour, milk, cheese) with pasta, broccoli, chicken, cherry tomatoes and cheese to top it. With the oven left open after to let the heat flow round the room - daughter is safely in another room eating with me.
I've got the chicken carcass in the slow cooker, covered in water, onion and herbs for soup. I will add vegetables to it tomorrow. It's great to think that a whole chicken can be stretched to make so many more meals. Being frugal to me is making the most of what you have got so you don't need to spend any more and have less waste.
And I have some chicken left over! Hmm what to do with it?! xx
Hello. Found your blog today and I have just read them all. I am a pensioner and somehow have managed to get myself £6000 in debt. I am trying very hard to be more frugal but do find it difficult especially as I like good food! I admire you for trying to get rid of your debt and shall hopefully pick up some tips as the week's go on. Best regards to you and yours.

DeleteMy daughter says I am a compulsive spender but she also is a spender. It is very easy to get into debt because you don't seem to notice it mounting up but it's a darn sight harder to pay it off. Maybe in 2/3 years hopefully. I do enjoy reading the blogs to see how other people are trying! xxx
